Day 2, Paris

Paris, Day 2

Day two was cool, damp and overcast. Not great for photographs, but interesting overall.

On this St. Patrick's day, we crisscrossed the city.

Above is the Les Invalides, officially known as L'Hôtel national des Invalides (The National Residence of the Invalids), is a complex of buildings in the 7th arrondissement of ParisFrance, containing museums and monuments, all relating to the military history of France, as well as a hospital and a retirement home for war veterans, the building's original purpose. The buildings house the Musée de l'Armée, the military museum of the Army of France,

One of many police officers in Paris. All were friendly to a fellow officer.

Fellow student, Anna, from St. Louis

Off to the Louvre for a quick tour..
This museum is once of the worlds greatest collections of art.

This place would take months to fully appreciate..

Venus de Milo

This is the best I could do with the Mona Lisa. There were many people in this room, crowding to see her. She is roped off, and behind a protective glass enclosure.

Off to tour some famous bridges..

Our entire group, walking along the Seine river..

Approaching Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral..

Saint Denis (also called DionysiusDennis, or Denys) is a Christian martyr and saint. In the third century, he was Bishop of Paris. He was martyred in connection with the Decian persecution of Christians, shortly after 250 AD. After his head was chopped off, Denis is said to have picked it up and walked ten kilometres (six miles) from the summit of the hill, preaching a sermon the entire way, making him one of many cephalophores in hagiology

Joseph and I after saying a few prayers in the Cathedral.

Off for some free time in the Ile de La Cite..

We wrapped up our sight-seeing at the Fontaine Saint-Michel, patron saint of all police officers...

A beautiful monument..

We did lots of walking today. Great sights, scenes, and food. We took many trips on the Metro, which helped in getting around. After this fountain, we took off to get dinner with our entire group. It was nice to meet everyone from our different cities. We returned back to the hotel very late, and crashed like zombies.
